WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 9, 1996--Louisiana-Pacific Corp. was honored today by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for finding innovative ways to reduce waste while saving money. The recognition came as part of an EPA program called Waste Wi$e.
EPA complimented L-P on such activities as using recycled newspaper in building products; and reusing bark, sawdust, burner ash and wood debris as soil amendments.
EPA launched Waste Wi$e in 1994 as a voluntary partnership program designed to help businesses implement practical methods for reducing municipal solid waste. Waste Wi$e partners commit to achieving results in three areas: waste prevention, recyclables collection, and purchase or manufacture of recycled products.
Louisiana-Pacific uses recycled newspaper as the raw material in its Nature Guard cellulose insulation and as a primary ingredient in L-P FiberBond fiber gypsum construction panels. The company also turns by-products from L-P wood processing plants -- particularly bark and boiler ash -- into its Landscapers Pride line of garden products.
Louisiana-Pacific is a major building products company with headquarters in Portland, Oregon, with manufacturing facilities throughout the United States and in Canada, Mexico and Ireland. -0-
