Fed: Govt concerned about "raunch culture".
CANBERRA, April 28 AAP - The federal government says young people need to be more vigilant
when it comes to sharing raunchy images of themselves.
Minister for the Status of Women Tanya Plibersek says there's a lot happening in the
youth culture that "completely passes adults by".
She is especially worried about the "raunch culture phenomenon".
"Things like people filming sexual assaults on mobile phones ... taking pornographic
pictures ... and passing them around," she said during a debate on women's issues at the
National Press Club in Canberra.
Young people were making decisions that had "very bad long-term consequences", she said.
"The fact that those decisions are made in such a public way, on the internet or circulated
on mobile phones, means that they last forever."
The government was working on an online public education campaign aimed at young people
and focusing on respectful relationships, Ms Plibersek said.
