NSW: Shop owner dead after attempted robbery
A Sydney shop owner who was shot after chasing two robbers has died in hospital.
Two men, one armed with a pistol, followed the 58-year-old store owner and his twostaff members into the electronics shop on Bunnerong Road, Matraville, around 9am (AEDT)today.
The pair then allegedly demanded keys to the safe and threatened staff members beforemaking off with cash.
The owner and his staff gave chase and caught one of them, and the owner was shot twicein the stomach.
Police say he died at Prince of Wales Hospital while undergoing surgery.
His 46-year-old employee was pistol-whipped and is being treated for head injuries.
Superintendent DAVE OWENS says one alleged robber has been captured and is in hospitalunder police guard, but the other escaped.
