NT: Burke announces NT Opposition frontbench

Northern Territory Opposition leader DENIS BURKE has announced a nine-member shadow
ministry to take on Labor's scaled down seven-person cabinet.

The former chief minister predicted that within 12 months his successor CLARE MARTIN
would expand her cabinet back to the nine ministers the Country Liberal Party had used
to administer the Territory.

But Ms MARTIN has rejected the idea, saying she has seven hard working cabinet members.

She says Labor is committed to a lean and efficient government in accordance with the
wish of the electorate.

However Mr BURKE warns against a "yes minister" regime under Ms MARTIN, with inexperienced
ministers overwhelmed by their workload.

He predicts a slowdown in decision making exacerbated by the fact that the government
has no experience.
